 DJ Interview
When did you start DJing?June 1998
 Bio
  - tell us about yourself
Hi I'm Dj Nano born and raised in the NYC area as Bernard Cortes. I've been Djing for almost 6 years and plan to spin for the rest of my life. Besides that i'm planning to become a doctor or some type of professional.
How did you get into DJing?Well I used to have a fisher price turntable when I was 3 or 4 and I saw a FatBoys tv commercial with them scratching and I started scratching my records on it. Then my parents used to watch In Living Color and I started to scratch on my grandmother's phonograph and ate up some records and she had to replace her needle. I even made a slipmat out of the plastic from a cereal box. Then one of my dad's boys was a reggae DJ and introduced me to Dj battle videos and I saw a young kid name DJ A-trak win a world Championship. After going to so many of their house parties and observing and watching my dad's boy or guest DJs Fish and Ed Swift rockin it I picked up quickly and was convinced to buy my first set of belt drive turntables at the age of 14.
What do you love most about DJing?I Love rocking a party:controlling the crowd and their behavior. Once you control a crowd you feel like a god.
What is your most memorable DJing
 experience?
My most memorable experience DJing was at Hot Import Nights in Atlantic City in 2002. We lost our spot for a booth so we made a deal with alpine and had our equipment forklifted on top of their trailer and had the best view of the show. We literally took more than half of the crowd at that show around the booth. Especially with models dancing on top of the trailer to our music. Vision was pissed enough especially when we decided to do a booty dancing contest. They said they were gonna shut us down because its supposed to be a family friendly event. I'll always remember that day because I ran the stage/mic on that trailer and I pulled everyone to our side of the convention center and entertained them. The crowd response was so huge that I felt like I was on top of the world.
What are you future goals as a DJ?My future goals as a DJ is definately to take it to the top in all aspects. Mixtapes, Mixshows, Parties, and the Radio. Then step it up to music production, marketing, and management. Also I would like to win a title as a battle Dj in a major Turntablist Event.
What do you do when you are not
 DJing?
I go to St. John's University and try to study. I just started working for Cornerstone Promotions/The Fader Magazine as a rep. I'm also very involved with my fraternity Lambda Phi Epsilon. I chill with my DJ Crew/family Abstract Sounds whenever I have free time. And most importantly I devote time to my real family the people who raised, fed, housed, and care for me.
Shout outs!Shoutz to mah Crew Abstract/SOS... Shouts to my Bros... Shouts to all the Promo Teams in NYC... And Shouts to all the Ladies since I'm single ;o)
